On October 26, 2010, we held the 36th John F. Mulvihill Awards Dinner
at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston.
Each year EIES honors individuals and organizations that make a difference in the lives
of people who are blind, visually impaired, or disabled. This year we honored New Eyes for the Needy,
an organization that provides free eyeglasses for people in this country and in developing
nations around the world; and Ellen and Jonah Zimiles, who operate Words Bookstore in Maplewood
with a mission dedicated to families who have a member that is developmentally disabled.
We were entertained by Nashville singer Sara Beck.
Singer/songwriter Sara Beck combines soulful storytelling with irresistible pop hooks for a sound that
has caught the attention of fans and legends alike. She has performed onstage with Stevie Wonder, toured
as a background vocalist for some of Nashville's best, and had songs recorded by major label artists and
indie artists alike. Sara's 2009 self-produced release, Music For Lovers & Fighters, is a bold collection
of songs about love, dreams, and the courage to fight for both.
Overall the event was a complete success and we hope to see you there in 2011!
